Obligation to report cryptocurrencies in tax returns

The reporting requirement for cryptocurrencies in Switzerland means that all individuals and companies must declare their digital assets in their tax returns, similar to bank deposits or securities.
The valuation is made at the year-end price on 31 December in Swiss francs. The Federal Tax Administration publishes an annual price list of the most important coins for this purpose. The information is entered in the asset list of the tax return. Reporting is important because failure to declare cryptocurrencies can result in additional taxes and fines.
