Independence of the auditors in SME companies

Since 4 June 2018 the risk of a devaluation of the limited statutory examination is off the table. The legal requirements for the limited statutory examination will not be lowered. The Council of States has rejected the respective parliamentary initiative to soften the independence rules. The majority believes that the limited statutory examination for SMEs has proven itself in practice. Reducing the legal requirements would result in the statutory limited examination getting close to an advisory service. The independence of the auditor is however important.

EXPERTsuisse welcomes this decision from the government. The relevance and credibility of the limited statutory examination can thus be maintained at a high level.
